outsider art veronica terrillionBegan in 1953, Veronica Terrillion has created an environment at Indian River in Lewis County, New York which includes life-sized figures of human and animal figures and religious scenes. A log house, garden and handmade sculpture are also part of the environment. Two stone islands are set in the midst of a pond. Several figures of cement  abide on these islands. Terrillion is quoted in the book “Self-Taught Outsider and Folk Art” saying “The Garden means my whole life. I worked not only by the sweat of my brow but the sweat of my blood to get everything I got. I had to burn the brush, and I had to dig out the dirt, stones myself. I tell you, I done some work here. I sit down at night and wonder how I did all of it.”

Her work was included in the Hemphill collection donated to the Smithsonian. Two works from this collection are available at www.visionaryart.com.

Veronica Terrillion passed away in 2003.
