Rudi Bostic was born in 1944 in Georgia. His desire to create was manifested early in life when he began making his own toys at a young age. Later while still a teenager he was requested to paint some pieces with a religious theme to be used at church. Perhaps the affordability of or access to conventional painting tools was prohibitive. Or perhaps he was just to eager to wait long enough to round them up. For whatever reason Rudy’s project was done with common house paint on plain cardboard. Ironically need being the mother of invention the cardboard painting showed Rudy the medium he would use throughout his career to date. It is reported that his preferred medium continues to be cardboard due to its smooth work surface. Rudolph Bostic now has a large following of collectors throughout the United States and his works are included in The Mennello Museum of American Folk Art, in Orlando, Florida.
