Lonnie Holley’s first works of art were sandstone carvings. He now paints and makes assemblages from cast-off metal and various other found materials. He spent most of his childhood in foster homes and reform school, and was forced to move from his home east of the Birmingham Airport when the city expanded a runway and now lives with five of his fifteen children about 40 miles from the city. His work depicts man’s inhumanity to man and is extremely thematic. His work has appeared in several exhibitions and he is written about often. |
