After converting to Judaism during his second prison term for armed robbery, Joe Louis Light settled in Memphis and in 1975 began to paint. He most often painted on cardboard and found objects. Joe decorated the outside of his home with paintings declaring his belief in the Old Testament. Birds and airplanes are featured prominently in his work and exhortations about the Old Testament are most often written on the works themselves. Joe and his wife Rosie were parents to ten children. |
