Raised on a farm in Arkansas, Eddie Kendrick made it through the seventh grade. Eddie was the first born in a family that would eventually include twelve other siblings. Eddie worked as a school janitor in Little Rock and his paintings caught the eye of one of the teachers there. Eddie worked in watercolor, oil, pencils and crayons. Eddie was deeply religious and believed that God’s purpose for his life was to reveal Christ through painting. His work was inspired by the Holy Scriptures, Gospel Music, and by the Holy Spirit through dreams and visions. A one-man exhibition “The Art of Eddie Kendrick: A Spiritual Journey” opened in September 1998 at the Arkansas Art Center and later moved to the New Orleans Museum of Art.
