In 1977, Chris graduated from High School and attended college for a little over 3 years. He left college and joined the army in 1980. After his service, he was employed by a brick factory in Alabama. The plant shut down and Chris lost his job. Several jobs followed with similar results. He bagan to have trouble with his eyesight in 1990. After almost becoming blind, he discovered that he was diabetic. His vision was so poor that filling out a job application was a crapshoot, and the resulting form left potential employers with the impression that Chris was illiterate. Fortunately, after the diagnosis and treatment of his diabetes, his eyesight began to steadily improve. Being close to his grandmother, He asked her to give him quilting lessons, and Chris began to paint on the quilts that he made. Today, his quilts sell for hundreds and even thousands of dollars in galleries froom Florida to New York.
