James Buddy Snipes (1943 – )

Buddy Snipes was born in Macon County Alabama to a family which was to include twelve children. He began making toys as a child for himself and other children. He made them out of whatever he could find. He also made farm implements such as wagons and wheelbarrows out of scrap lumber and sold them to his neighbors. When he grew up, Buddy worked as a farmhand, a pulpwooder, logger and dishwasher. He was also a handyman, fixing things for people. He has a knack for mechanical things. He began to make assemblages from tree limbs, vines, scrap lumber, roots, and other found objects around 1990. He also paints simple figures on tin and frames them with twigs.
